The Future of Cosmetic and Aesthetic Lasers

The American Health and Beauty has just attended the annual gatherings of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery and we had the chance to spoke to the society president, Dr. Rox Anderson. Dr. Anderson has been a very valuable driving force when it comes to the use of lasers for skin treatments; he was even hail as the founder of fractional resurfacing. According to Dr. Anderson he considers himself as a problem solver. He said that lasers are not invented but instead directed its development of lasers for medical use. Lasers were usually developed as a treatment for newborns with birthmarks; the idea was too worked side by side with John Parrish to find a treatment for birthmarks that will not cause severe scarring. Along the way, they ended up utilizing a pulsed dye laser which was very selective and it was actually the first time that the laser was used specifically for medical application. Aside from that it was the first time that the combined power of absorption and pulsing was used too few selective microscopic targets and somehow produces effect on it. They have discovered that it could damage something without damaging the other areas around it.

Dr. Anderson then, utilizes the lasers for other functions like pigmented lesions and tattoo removal. Then from then on, the function of lasers has evolved to become the lasers that are being used to treat skin disorders. Lasers now, are in fact, also used to function beyond skin problems it also can be use to resolve cosmetic issues. In fact, Dr. Anderson’s laboratory came up with the first laser treatment for removing hair. They have found out how they can control the pulses of light so that the stem cells are the ones which will be responsible for making hair cycle and by getting rid of those stem cells in a selective manner. Laser now are the top method used to remove hair permanently.

One of the serious benefits of lasers is their selectivity. They can only treat certain portions, without damaging the entire area. Previous methods can really wrecked and be too destructive. They have discovered that each tissue in the body can definitely heal without scarring, just make sure that the surgery done on microscopic scale.

Dr. Anderson also expressed his great impression about the recent advances made by physicians like Dr. Jill Waibel who is making a great pace in curing burn victims. He has great interest in the use of lasers for contouring the body. When he was in medical school, he was taught that all of the body’s fat cells are there since the day you were born and you will eventually die with them, they will never change, they may become big and small, it was seen as some kind of excess baggage tissue. These are all not true, they are living endocrine system that has got good controls around it and you can even affect them in various ways, so that you can select only a damage area and remove the fat and he is interested about that, not merely on the skin but throughout the entire body.
